At some point in my life (hopefully in the next week, which basically is wishful thinking) I want to become that person who has a natural routine in their life where you know, you wake up and go to bed at the same time every day and night. But for some reason my brain cannot wrap my head around the idea of sticking to the same routine every day. I have never had a routine, I don’t think I ever have in my life. So every time your shrink, or your parents suggest the idea of starting a fresh slate… well I have been trying to do that for the past 8 years..

So, if you were me, what would you do? How do I succumb to the every day routine that most human beings have in their every day lives? How do I become that average person that actually makes coffee, eats breakfast and showers within an hour or so?

I know it seems really fucking complicated..

I think something like that requires self motivation and possibly self control. Even if I dug deep enough, I don’t think I’d ever find that inside of me.

So if any of you know any tricks or tips up your sleeves, feel free enlighten me.

I have been in quite the funk lately. What is funny, however, is whenever that happens to me life has a wonderful way of bringing me back to reality in so many mysterious ways. Today, I had family pictures taken by the one and only Micah Hoffman, and it was a great time.

Getting pictures taken is not my favorite thing in the world, but it helped that I was with the people I am most comfortable with. I get rather awkward.

The past couple weeks have been rough, and being with the entire family again was extremely relaxing, even if I had a terrible hangover.

And now, each of us are at different parts of the house doing our own work. Whether it is a business proposal like my father, class preparation like my mother, or more piling research like my brother, we collectively are enjoying the sweet sounds of Mumford and Sons new album “Babel”. [If you haven’t heard it yet, you’re definitely missing out.]

Oh and thank you Apple TV and your wonderful streaming magic..

I know this passage has been completely random, and does not have any meaning, but it’s nice to get all of my thoughts out and out of my head.

It’s nice to be back, Tumblr.

MINI BAKED POTATOES WITH CRUMBLED BLUE CHEESE

These are delicious, easy, and great to serve as an appetizer. They can be served hot or cold, though I personally favor them right out of the oven. If they are hot though, the blue cheese mixture will melt off pretty quickly, so they should be eaten right after preparation.

Ingredients:

20 small potatoes (the grocery store usually has different varieties, and I think they all work)
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
coarse salt
1/2 cup sour cream|
1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives, to garnish (make sure you use fresh chives)

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
2. Wash and dry potatoes. Throw in bowl and toss with vegetable oil.
3. Dip the potatoes into the salt to coat lightly, then spread potatoes out on a baking sheet.
4. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the potatoes are tender.
5. In another bowl, combine the sour cream and blue cheese and mix together.
6. Cut a cross into the top of each potatoes. Press your finger in the cross so that the potatoes open slightly. Be gentle or the potatoes will split too far. If this happens, don’t worry, they still taste delicious.
7. Top each potato with a spoonful of the blue cheese sour cream mixture. Garnish with chives.

New Yorkers cut obscene rent checks each month. Since I’m barely home, it hurts to think how I’m basically paying for a large storage unit for my closet and bed. Between long hours at the office and a social life to boot, it’s critical to have that other bag in tow.

Yes, the other bag. We have our main purse, but I need that larger tote bag to carry those I’m-never-home-so-I-need-day-to-night pieces. Aldo recently launched a new line of “The Other Bag” for savvy girls on the go. Genius!

I’m strategic about the items in my other bag. Everything I pack helps get me through the day. I get to the office around 8:30 a.m. and anyone who’s lived and worked in New York knows to put your game face on before the subway commute. Also, I always pack my heels and change out of my flats once I’m at the desk. For the subway ride, I sport my Urbanears headsets, coffee cup and reading materials (a copy of Vogue from work and the Steve Jobs biography).

My makeup routine is fairly minimal since I’m awake before the sun rises. I’m good to go with one dollop of Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer and a swipe of Chanel’s classic Rouge Allure lipstick. A power red lip really brightens my face and gives the illusion that I actually spent time in the morning getting ready. These beauty products are great for touch-ups throughout the day and night.

I also like to keep various fashion accessories in my other bag. Since the weather lately in New York is unpredictable, I always keep my sunglasses with me at all times. And to give my outfits a bit of a punch, this J. Crew necklace is simple and goes with almost anything. One of my favorite accessories is a bracelet my boss recently gifted to everyone on our team when she traveled to Paris.
